"Our cooking club provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about healthy food choices" Pamela Tousis
Learning how to prepare healthy meals is an important skill in life and the earlier adolescents learn the better. Unfortunately, our busy lifestyles don’t allow the time for us to prepare meals at home which leads us to eating more fast food or heating up packaged food products. These foods are high in fat, sugar, and salt and provide little nutrition. Learning basic cooking skills can help and encourage young people to use healthy foods to prepare meals for themselves. Our cooking club provides a hands-on opportunity for Glencoe Central students in grades 5th-8th to learn about healthy food choices and valuable cooking skills. By acquiring this invaluable skill, adolescents will gain an understanding of the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, how to plan and prepare balanced meals, read and understand food labels, learn food safety skills, and discover that cooking is fun!
The club is lead by Pamela Tousis, Assistant Director of Glencoe Youth Services
